In my home state there is a distinction between Personalized license plates and Vanity plates. Vanity plates cost nearly $50.00 more than personalized plates. Vanity plates may have only letters, but personalized plates have letters and numbers. The purchaser of a personalized plate may request certain numerals but, if those numerals are not available, the next sequential number is provided instead. So you may want BRANT1 but, if that plate is taken, you will be issued BRANT2.
In the parking lot of a local WalMart store a few months ago I spotted a car with the license plate WWJD4.
My brain just automatically filled in the rest…”a Klondike Bar.”

That was a long road to get to the punchline 😉
Though I must say that I found your backstory quite interesting. My father-in-law “collects” vanity plates, so I’m always on the look out for new ones to send him.
