There’s an interesting post up on Both Saint and Cynic about the substitutions made for the instances of God’s name in the Old Testament text – namely, the fact that, when read aloud, it is common to replace the name with the word “Lord” to avoid stepping on the prohibition of using the Lord’s name in vain. However, this can cause problems as the text uses different words.

And, as I’m finding out in my lowly Hebrewlessness, it can cause problems for readers who only have access to translations.
