   I first found out about the connection at my grandfather’s funeral, walking around the Jewish cemetery and seeing many of the headstones adorned with that handsign. (I was in my 20s, so smart enough not to point it out or ask questions at the time, but I did make a mental note to look into it later.) Interestingly, I had forgotten (or never knew) that it was supposed to be the letter “shin”, which means that though most everyone focuses on the configuration of the fingers, the thumb is also required to properly make the shape of that 3-pronged letter.
